Report on August 2006 activities
Hi Folks,
I’m writing this report while still on a high, having just returned from Blackpool Pose on the Prom.
The month started off with a nice weekend for the usual posse at the Yorkshire Wing Ding. The posse consisted of Nigel and Joanna, Ed and ‘Q’, with Tammy the dog, Mark and Liz with Emily and Josh, Laurie and Angela, and finally, Janet and me.
As usual, Nigel offered to take us on a mystery tour, which to everyone’s surprise, ended up in Scarborough. The walk around Scarborough in the gorgeous weather was very welcome indeed, together with the highly recommended ‘Fish and Chips’ lunch. The Yorkies were their usual very friendly bunch and a great weekend was had by all.
A few days later, Ed set up a ride for the elderly father of a work colleague, who was celebrating his 85th year. Ed, Stuart Sorrell, Nigel and Joanna, Pete, Mark and I attended on evening just outside Frodsham, where we collected the passenger, Bill Blyth, and at this point I had to recheck that Ed had told us his age properly as he was very spritely indeed.
We then had a nice leisurely ride with the Wings to the entrance to Oulton Park for a photo session and a leisurely return trip. Bill has a long history of involvement with motorcycles having helped develop Earles Forks, early leading link fork. Bill had not ridden on a motorcycle for many years and never before on a Goldwing. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience and stated he would happily do it again.
Ed put pen to paper with the following report of a short break followed by the Treffen.
“Q and I had d 3 days in North Devon before the Treffen and was excellent, went to Lynmouth and Ilfracombe, staying in a brick tent for 3 nights then onto Treffen for excellent event, where I was sat doing Inscription and somebody came in and put a sign up selling bits, namely, toe and heal footboards for a 1500 and as they walked out, I followed them and bought the bits, the sign was up for about 20 seconds!!! Colly and Stevie worked on inscription and the bar and loved it.
A superb Treffen and a great time all round.”
While the others were enjoying the Treffen, Nigel and Joanna, and Janet and I were visiting Yorkshire again and having a very nice weekend in Dalesbridge. The only bad point of the weekend was the torrential rain at times but this did not stop us getting out and we were lucky to have a lightening fast tour of the Ridings with Mick Emmett as our tour guide. Such was his enthusiasm for the job that he ripped the sole off his boot cranking over a bit too far on one bend.
Finally, the most illuminating event of the year, The Pose on the Prom. What an amazing event, attended by Nigel and Joanna, Stuart and Amy, Ed and Q, Mark and Liz with Children, Pete and Joy, Steve G and Carol, Allen and Christine, and Janet and I. A truly super weekend with a lot of effort put in by Lancs and Lakes to ensure smooth proceedings.
The weather was possibly the only factor which may have put a few off from attending, but it was clear for the evening, the main parade, and what a parade!!! It was nice to see the police doing an excellent job in ensuring we were held up as little as possible and I suspect that the numbers will be higher than last year despite the weather. Pontins did us proud with our own check in facility and bar/entertainment. Nigel, as is his usual self, recorded lots of photos for the websites and it will be a great pleasure to revisit them and re-live the fun.
From Stevie a bit of a story: “Treffen gossip, it was good to see all the local regions at Wincanton site, the only real problem with the site being the gravel leading to the camping area. Luckily for us the ever hardworking Cheshire rep “Kevin” (Lord & Lady Crawford) tested the gravel for adhesion on his arrival and found the patch with the least grip.
North Wales Rep’s were not there for the big event but trust us, we would of laughed, sorry, helped him pick up his Wing. At least his embarrassment will now not go unrecorded; as Kev had told me in confidence (another mistake, Kev) he would not report it in the upcoming Cheshire Wingspan write up.”
Anyway, that’s all folks for this month
Just a quick reminder than the monthly meeting returns to Sunday at 12 from October
