Report on August 2007 activities

Wow what a great month

This has been a time of fun sun and ride outs that began with the Irish Treffen that was had a great turnout and was attended by Ed and Q, Dave and Pam, Ann and Alan, Laurie and Dean, Stevie and Colly, Anne G and David with Dave and Teabag from Staffs our honorary NWW members who are always with us.

As Loopy and I had to go to Spain at this time to suffer sunshine Colly took notes and wrote this report for NWW’s....

It was a wonderful Treffen but not so wonderful weather – wee`d down most of the time but was made good by plenty of laughs, good friendship, lots of food and plenty of lemonade (hic hic).

At the last Irish Treffen we discovered how Teabag got her name and discovered that to Pam AA doesn`t mean that the trike has broken down, but something else very special to her.  Just put it this way, most of us have tea or coffee on waking up in the morning but Vodka followed by Pernod is Pams tipple – she has learnt not to be so honest with us in the future

On one of the slightly boozy evenings, Colly managed to convince Teabag Dave that he needed a lovely white PC800 as a second (or in Dave`s case probably a 20th) bike and by Tuesday Colly’s bike had a new owner making way for the coveted Yamaha Fazer that she had her eye on. A Fazer has since been purchased because the money was burning too big a hole in her pocket to keep hold of it!

We had a great if long journey over – most of us live maximum 20 miles from the Liverpool Seaport with daily connections to Belfast, but Ed forced us to travel 200 miles to go from Stranraer – maybe we will be a little more forceful in our `lets go from Liverpool plea` in the future.

One good thing came from travelling from Stranraer is that we found out just how close Steve and Ed became when they were joint reps last year, so close in fact that they got married at Gretna Green. Colly and Q gave their blessing (anything for a bit of peace and quiet) and the ceremony went off beautifully in attendance by bridesmaid David.

The other good thing with the long journey home, is that we could fulfil Ed`s fetish for Garden Centre Tea Rooms and drink plenty of tea and coffee and scoff loads of scones

On the way home, the old mens bikes (Ed and Stevie) were lined up with the big trucks, Anne G was with the young mens bikes so she made plenty of new best friends, so much so that Colly has now bought a new bike so she can also join the young mens line!!!!!

The next event for us was the British Treffen held at Camarthen. It is a well known fact that when loopy and I go anywhere the sun shines and it did for the whole event. As Loopy had decided that she would ride her own ER5 I took Emily on the wing and we set out to meet Stevie CD on the M6 and we travelled down together.

On arrival we were greeted by Pam & Dave Edwards with ED & Q who were still drying out from the Irish Trefen. Once the tents were set up we went for a walk round to see who else was there and drool over the bikes until the sun began to fall and we went into the main hall for the great entertainment and beer followed by a quiet chat into the small hours at Ed & Q’s tent.

On the Friday we went for a ride into Tenby where we spent a pleasant day walking round the shops and seafront eating ice-cream and chips. As the Saturday night was ‘sixties’ night we decided to get some silly hats to wear so us cool guys bought  huge ‘pimp’ hats and the girls wore sexy pigtail ones. The next item we purchased was a fun inflatable swimming pool that was used with great effect back at camp as seen in the pictures.

When it was time for the ride outs we all joined in and completed the Light run and the parade of nations with lights blazing and only the sound of Ed’s custom exhaust drowning out the blast of the array of horns. To mention everything we got up to that week would fill this Wingspan so we would just like to thank everyone who organised and ran the event that included rides, light shows, shiny bits, new & second hand parts, bike sales & demos, and all the other brilliant fun stuff that keeps us amused and entertained. On the last night the main hall ran out of beer so we made our way back to our tent for supplies and after the disco finished the rest of the team sensibly went to bed while Stevie CD, Emily (our sober guide) and I went for a walk round the site on the lookout for similar beer filled company. We followed the sound of laughter and gate crashed a party of Welsh wingers who made us welcome and we satin their gazebo talking beery nonsense until Emily steered us back to our tents at 2am.

Back home as we prepared for the Blackpool Light weekend we heard that Q had passed her theory test so should be taking her test very soon! Well done! As usual the Blackpool weekend was a great success with top entertainment from Mick miller who had us all crying with laughter. The Lancs & lakes did a brilliant job of organising the ever growing number of bikes and wingers and although the light run started off slowly it soon picked up pace and everyone had a great time posing and flashing their shiny bits.

We must end this report with the sad news of the passing of Joy Rowe who will always remain one of our best loved members of North Wales Wings. Everyone who knew Joy will remember her spirit of adventure, her kind & fun personality and will miss her deeply. To celebrate the life of Joy, Pete and his family had arranged a personal and very moving ceremony as Joy was laid to rest in the remembrance garden at Eastham, a tranquil place where the beautiful terraced gardens overlook the mighty river Mersey. North Wales Wings were proud to escort Joy on her final trip with our wings alongside her friends from the sidecar federation and we are sure Joy would have loved the ceremony and been very proud of Pete.

As usual all our new pictures, news, and info are on our North Wales Wings website.

Cheers...Mark
