Report on January 2007 activities
Hello again Wingers
Wow am I delighted!! coming home from a gruelling days work playing with my 1.1 scale Freightliner train set I find Loopy grinning her head off and holding the January edition of Wing Span with not only this months write up in it but also the missing December one! All I can say is 'thanks very much' to Keith and the rest of the Wing Span team for including them both and restoring my faith.
As this cold, wet, & dark weather continues we are trying our best to remember what the sun felt like and if we close our eyes and wrap ourselves round a radiator we can almost remember what heat is. On Jan 5th Q, Ed, & Ann G came to our house to talk about the Irish Treffen. We had mentioned that we would like to go but instead of the usual ride to the site to 'do the Treffen' & then ride home the wine fuelled ladies got carried away and decided to make a week of it. Ed said he would bring it up in the Mid Month Meeting to see if we could get more members to join us to make it a special event. The idea is to ride north, hotel overnight, and take the morning ferry when we are refreshed (and my hangover is gone).
When the Mid Month Meeting came on the 7th Loopy and I were unable to attend as our neibour had a fall and Loopy being a nurse had to help him and stay until the Doctor came.
From the notes kindly taken by Colly 19 members and one canine called George (I bet poor Jo was scared.purrrr) attended the monthly meeting. My missing report was mentioned but I guess everyone has read it by now so I better keep my head down!
The parties we had in December were also mentioned and it seems poor Stevie is still sulking because noone was sick (his method of scoring a good party) on Christmas Eve at his house.
Ride master Pete announced that he plans to arrange lots of ride outs, hopefully on the 3rd week of each month is open to suggestions for places to visit. The rides will be announced in our NWW website so anyone from any region can join in the fun.
If all goes to plan 17 NWWinger's should be going to Ireland.
On Saturday 13th Jan Nigel, Joanna, Pete, Joy, Loopy, and I attended the Lancs & Lakes Christmas party. When we arrived we all headed straight to the swimming pool with Jacuzzi, sauna, and steam rooms for a mild exercise and relaxing period.
After lying in the bubbles for 3 hours we were wrinkled enough so changed and dressed for dinner. As usual Bob and his team put on a great show and the meal and accommodation were both excellent! (Apart from the tea that Jo likened to extract of gnat) lol.
While we were eating Nigel entertained us with a slideshow of pics from last year that had us all laughing and cringing as we were each shown at our best and worst endeavours to be movie stars. The award ceremony was very entertaining with Loopy & I very surprised and delighted to receive a solid gold medal each for 'furthest travelled' to the Blackpool light run. This was followed by Loopy winning 2 prizes on the draw!
After eating we all danced the night away with Pete and Joy doing a mean impression of Status Quo while Nigel & Joanna gave us a taste of 'come dancing' complete with 'cats ears'…mmmmm.
As usual the king of the cameras was clicking away at everybody in sight so there are loads of pictures on our website to rekindle the memories of the event and remind those who have no recollection of the night due to the liquid cosh. We were going to stay for the Lancs AGM but with queasy stomachs we decided to go home to make sure all our animals were ok.
On the 20th we all descended on Q & Ed for the mid month social which was a really nice relaxing affair with loads of food drink and jiffy pud. The conversation was mostly about bikes and what we were going to do when the sun returns to warm the sky. Oh and Ed being bitten by a Hamster then wearing a huge bandage and claiming it was a Rottwieler or wolf or something while in the 'line of duty'. Thanks again to the Lovely Q and 'Hamster' Ed.
On the 26th Q, Joanna, & Jan T had their night out to celebrate Joanna's birthday. I cannot say if she is really 21 again as I got a slap at the New Year party for opening my mouth within ear shot! But I can tell you that they all went to the Beaufort Arms where there was a Frank Sinatra night. Jo said he was ok but he was not too convincing as he sang 'Mack the knife' with a 'Scouse' accent while the girls sang the now famous 'Stevie' backing vocals which I am sure must certainly have enhanced his act immeasurably. Sadly Loopy was stuck at work so we could not go but Nigel said it gave Ed and himself a chance to talk about us.
In closing we would all at the NWW and I am sure the whole GWOCGB like to wish a very Happy Birthday to our own Dave Turvey who will be blowing out many candles on Tuesday the 13th. Speaking of celebrations we all wish a super happy Wedding Anniversary on the 1st of the month to the wonderful Colly and Stevie who married in Las Vegas 12 years ago! Last but certainly not least lets all raise our glasses to the lovely Christine and Allen Prescott who will be celebrating their wedding anniversary on the 30th.
Cheers
Mark
