Report on July 2007 activities

Hi everyone

This has been quite an eventful month for NWW's with some events attended and some personal highs and lows for its members. The beginning of the month started with Ed, Mozzie, Stevie and myself taking a trip to the 'Japanese Vintage Bike show' at Uttoxeter Race Course. The sun shone down on the very extensive display of bikes ranging from concourse condition machines worth thousands of pounds to one burnt out Yamaha, which sold to a happy chap for £60. This was just the place to pick up all those elusive bits and pieces you just cannot find anywhere else ... and we did.

On the 14th all NWW's went for a ride around Wales with Loopy bravely managing the 230 mile trip on her 125 and as the sun shone we took our time to take in the beautiful scenery before stopping for tea and ice cream where Stockport Steve and Legs joined us with Steve on his new bike. See our website for the pics!

On Thursday 19th Cheshire began setting up for their Wing Ding in Crewe only two miles from our house and so as the sun was shining Loopy decided we should take our tent and set it up before the downpour predicted for the weekend began. On the Friday Ed, Q and Tammy arrived and brought the rain with them. After finishing work I joined them and we went to say hello to the other Wingers who had braved the downpour that had now flooded most of Shropshire and the Midlands. This was only the second time we had used our new tent and we must say it looked very posh with its own 'moat' but as usual the rain did not dampen our spirits and all us brave souls had a brilliant weekend. The night time entertainment was very good and we even managed to win some of the raffle prizes. One thing that really had everyone clapping and cheering was when Cheshire played the DVD of the NNW's own Wing Ding that they had filmed and produced and of course everyone said what a great time they had and how much they were looking forward to the next one.

On the Saturday, Stevie and Colly joined us and while Josh stayed with his fellow Wing Nuts, Emily came with us for a ride to D&K with Loopy riding her 125, for the girls to drool overthe bikes they were going to buy when the) passed their tests and all of us sitting on just about every bike in the shop. Back at camp we walked round all the tents talking to everyone we knew and making new friends before anoth- er great night of entertainment.

We would like to thank the Cheshires for another brilliant Wing Ding and despite the very heavy rain it was a good turn out and everyone had great soggy fun!

On the 29th Christine and Alan went for a ride out and Christine sent this report of their day:

`Allen and I decided on a last minute change of plan last night as the weather was picking up, and so we set off this morning (after a leisurely greeting to the day, i.e. a bit late!) for Aberdyfi as we had not ventured out there before. Aberdyfi was chosen as the blind pointing with a finger on the map came up as Weymouth in Dorset but we thought that a bit 'far' for a ride out.

As I had not been on the trike for a bit on ride outs due to other commitments, I was not quite as in tune with the bends and leaning required on the way out so it was a bit hard for Allen but I soon got into the swing of things.

We went via Welshpool, turned off at the signposts for Dolgellau and through some beautiful countryside. The sun shone and the roads were fairly quiet. After turning off the A489 Machynlleth road onto the B4404 we came again onto a signpost for a) left to Machynlleth, or b) to Dolgellau . As the map was in the top box and I only clutched a piece of paper, this proved to be a bad choice as we passed Corris Craft Centre in the middle of the Cader Idris mountains.

We stopped for lunch but I wouldn't let Allen have ice cream until I had seen the sea. We decided to go down the B4405 to Tywyn and Allen had his ice cream along the sea front, which had a very bracing breeze. We travelled back along the coast road to Dolgellau, Bala and home. It was lovely riding along with the sea below and very pretty. The Cader Idris mountains are very green and majestic, and show off marvellous shapes as you twist and turn. It was the first time we had been on this route in all the years we have been in Wales. This really is a beautiful country and never ceases to surprise. The little fluffy things in the sky stayed mainly white and did not have any leaks i.e. rain! I need to get more practice in ready for our trip to France in September, which should be underway by the time you read this! Also Allen will be 'officially' retired after three years of practice, Christine will be retired. (Allen perked up when he realised that she would be a kept woman again!). They will hopefully be setting off on what will probably be their last long trip on the Wing as they put the trike through its paces in France via Limoges, Millau, Carcasonne, Lourdes, la Rochelle, Brittany, Caen and back to the Wonders of Wales where they hope to (Christine especially) take life at a slower pace and enjoy some quality time with the ever growing family."

On 2 August the big day had finally arrived, the world would never be the same again, bunnies would scurry to their burrows and birds would sit higher in the trees ... Loopy was taking her bike test! I must say that on a personal note I was confident that she would do well asshe is a very good rider and when she passed she could not wait to get out on the ER 500 she had bought from Ed and Q and rode around for hours with a huge grin. Well done Loopy from all at NNW's. As Q has also passed her CBT and bought a new 125 we lads are getting a bit worried they may be making a takeover bid although it would be nice for us to be driven about for a change!

The monthly meeting was held on the 5th which turned out to be quite heated as those who had turned up for the last meeting while we were out on our bikes had decided that we would not have our always successful `camping Wing Ding' but wanted to replace it with a `hotel based event'. After much discussion it was decided to try holding both with our Wing Ding in the summer and the hotel based event either early or late in the year.

To finish we would all like to wish a very happy birthday to Alan Prescott who will be celebrating on the 24th ... have a good one mate!

Oh and Happy Wedding Anniversary to Ed and Q and also to Loopy and me who all celebrate on the 29th.

And of course welcome back to Ed who now has a Wing again!

As usual all our pics, news, and info are on our website.
