Report on June 2006 activities

Hi Folks,

I am just relaxing and recovering after our Wing Ding which took place over the last weekend.  So much preparation and it’s over in a couple of days. The whole of the last month has been spent in preparing routes for the ride-out and riding them to make sure they are suitable. The Wing Ding was very successful with the only blemish being the Welsh Mist which we were unable to control.

The Ride-out was especially successful as it had been prepared and organised by Nigel Mac and it was well received – he managed to obtain authority for the bikes to park free of charge and in places where authority is not normally given – Betws Y Coed and Llandudno in particular. The members of North Wales Wings would like to extend our thanks to those riders from other regions that assisted by being marshals for the event and ensuring it went off smoothly and incident free.

Ed, our joint rep, had a most enjoyable time as there were more than a few mechanical problems to keep him busy and his hands dirty. For those that don’t know him, Ed is happiest when there is a problem with a bike that he can tinker with and fix, and most are surprised with his ingenuity at fixing broken and non-operating equipment. There were no major breakdowns that we became aware of over the weekend so another bonus.

A memorable moment for Eddy was the sight of  Stevie C-D very carefully packing his trailer and  starting his bike then slowly leaving the field so as not to drop the bike and damage the trailer, then realise that after all that he had actually forgotten to hitch the trailer onto the bike.

Another incident was Nigel Mac enjoying his packed lunch sitting on the bench on the Promenade at Llandudno, and after very carefully removing the foil lid of his yogurt, folds it very carefully for disposal and in the process, tips the pot pouring the yogurt down his sleeve.

Our charity this year in conjunction with Bangor Rugby Club was CLIC, a charity for children with cancer and another memorable moment for Ed was riding around the site with a smiling child sufferer of the illness on the back of a trike.

It would be very remiss of me not to mention thanks to all the members of the region and visiting guests, who took part in the running and work involved in our Wing Ding. Without them the event could not have been the success it was.

I’m actually writing this report early as Jan and I are off touring Scotland for a week and I want to make sure that the report is sent in with plenty of time to spare.

Not a lot else to report for now as the usual case of no information prevails – tell me about it and I will put it in the report.

Keep the shiny bits up
