Report on May 2006 activities

Hi Folks,

This month is an interesting one as the season progresses. The Wings have been out and about, mainly checking out routes for the forthcoming Wing Ding at Bangor, which should be over and done with by the time you read this.

The first trip of the month was the trip to Chatsworth House. Jan and I were joined by Peter and Joy, Nigel and Joanna, and Laurie and Angela for what turned out to be a dampish outing, but very enjoyable nevertheless. The highlight of the day was catching Nigel and Joanna putting on water-proofs as the weather was such as to need them. To those who don’t know him, Nigel has a phobia about rain and his bike dissolving and it is a rare treat to see the Mackintoshes in waterproofs.

There have been several trips to Bangor and the surrounding areas as routes are being planned for the Wing Ding. It has not helped that one of the main routes to reach the Wing Ding has been closed due to a rock-fall and will remain shut for most of the summer. This also needed to be checked out to see the impact it would have and thanks must go to Nigel, who spent a day with Joanna, checking out all the possible detours so that the info could be put on NWW web-site.

On Sunday 28th May three Goldwings met at the Gardeners Pub in Chester to support their charity run. What a sight to see. Three galleons of comfort and style amongst another 48 head-down, bum-in-the-air sports bikes. Thanks to Stevie and Colly, and Nigel and Joanna, who came with Jan and I, while we supported the Club’s charity, The National Association for Colitis and Crohn’s Disease.

The run itself was quite ‘interesting’, and was somewhat faster than a Wings run normally is. Suffice to say that the Marshals were well skilled in rapid progress to get back to the front of the run, and there were more than a few surprised sports bike riders at the progress a Wing can make when pushed.

The only other report to make is the attendance by Nigel and Joanna at the Border Wing Ding. They appear to have had a good time with excellent weather and what looks like a good attendance.

That’s all I can report because nobody else in the region has let me know what they have been up to.

Until next month – keep the shiny bits up
